About Lean Energy Solutions Ltd
Lean Energy Solutions (LES) is a pioneer in energy management consultancy services and commercial briquette manufacturing in East Africa. The company specializes in clean energy innovations cutting across solar, non-carbonized pellets & briquettes, energy audits, and boiler conversion. LES also offers regulatory compliance advice and energy consultancy services. Lean Energy Solutions was incorporated in 2007 and is a registered private company in Kenya.
About The Project
Financing this project means you will help LES provide efficient cookstoves + 6 months supply of pellets (clean fuel) to 100 low-income households. This will help families cook more efficiently, whilst minimizing their carbon footprint. This cookstove will significantly reduce their exposure to harmful pollutants such as Carbon Monoxide that are released by regular inefficient open-fire cookstoves.
Pellets are biofuels made from compressed organic matter or biomass. LES pellets are produced from sawdust that would otherwise be disposed of as waste. This technology involves the compaction of sawdust under high pressure into small, cylindrical bars of uniform shape and size. Pellet burning is environmentally friendly and does not have a negative impact on human health.
The Impact
Access to clean cooking for 100 households using it primarily for domestic use and some fraction of productive use for those who make simple food products for sale to their neighbors to make an income . Improved quality of life for approximately 400 people.
1 cookstove reduces ~3 tonnes of CO2 in 6 months. This loan aims to reduce 300 tonnes of CO2 in a 6-month time frame.
This loan also contributes to creating a social impact:
- Empowering women to engage in economic activities without compromising their ability to take care of the nutritional needs of their families.
- Reducing illness and fatalities associated with household air pollution, especially in urban areas.
Sustainable Development Goals
This project also contributes to the following UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Goal 7: 1 Kg of pellets cost upto 50% lower than 1 KG of charcoal and cooks faster and more efficiently than charcoal
Goal 13: 1 cookstove will save emissions of 600 tonnes of CO2 per year (measured by its thermal efficiency)
